MIET has developed "Satellites" for children's and adul’s hearts

MIET has developed

Technologies developed by Zelenograd scientists from the National Research University of Electronic Technology "MIET" can save the lives of many patients. Head of high-tech medical devices Dmitry Telyshev JSC Zelenograd Innovation-technology Center of medical equipment (ZITC ME) talked about  the first russian wearable "Satellite", that was developed by the Department of biomedical systems MIET. It is also called "artificial heart" – a breakthrough technology for Russia. It costs 4.5 million rubles, but 2-3 times cheaper than imported counterparts. System of auxiliary blood circulation represent a transitional stage between the operation on the dicky  heart and it’s replacement. Russia lags far behind developed countries in  a number of transplants. We have only one  hundred operations a year in our country. The problem of the availability of donor hearts will hardly be solved in the near future,. That’s why Russia requires  the systems of auxiliary blood circulation. Up to date it was held only 30 transplantation of the implant "Satellite". The first patient was implanted with Sputnik only in the 2012 year.

"There are just  about 10 companies that managed to bring the LVAD to the clinics. And in Russia MIET  is the only one, so it  is a good indicator. I hope that next year it will be able to reach some 50 implantations. Potentially we can manufacture  1000 devices a  year", –  Dmitry Telyshev said.

The staff of the Department of biomedical systems MIET "research laboratory modeling design and development of systems of auxiliary blood circulation of man" (artificial heart) has been working for a year and a half on a major project.  The pediatric circulatory support system,  analogue "Satellite" for children is being developed.. The importance of the project is huge.Annually in Russia more than 2,000 children with severe forms of heart failureneed   a high-tech medical assistance, including on the basis of implantable pumps blood and not get it in required amount.

Now the control sample is manufacturing,  then the series of tests with the models of implantable components will be run. To the end of 2017 the instrument  will have  been registered in Roszdravnadzor and come in retail.
